Is the Pageant Life Calling You—Or Just Collecting Your Coins?

Let’s be real. The pageant industry for women can be a beautiful, sparkly stage—or a well-dressed trap. The gowns, the crowns, the applause—it’s intoxicating. But ask yourself: Why are you really doing this?

Is it because you missed the spotlight as a little girl? Are you craving approval and applause? Do you secretly want to reclaim your inner princess? All valid feelings—but feelings alone won’t fund your future.

Don’t be bamboozled by the pageant glam.

Some of these newer pageants are less about legacy and more about making them known—not you. You’re shelling out hundreds (sometimes thousands!) for entry fees, gowns, flights, photo shoots…and for what? A sash and a few Instagram likes?

Here’s the truth: If the pageant doesn’t align with your bigger strategy—building your brand, audience, or platform—you may just be parading in a ball gown for someone else’s come-up.
Be strategic. Be intentional. Be seen for the right reasons.

I had a client, Dr. Geneva Williams, a seasoned leader ready for a bold pivot. I suggested a pageant—but not just any pageant. It had to fit her brand. And it did. We built PR around it, repositioned her as the Vibrant Life Coach, and now she’s on top of the world.
Check her out: DrGenevaSpeaks.com. That was strategy, not spectacle.

So before you write that check or buy that crown, ask yourself:
Does this align with my business goals?
Will this expand my influence or visibility in meaningful ways?
Can this open doors to media, partnerships, or speaking gigs?
Am I building a brand, or just playing dress-up?

And if you’re going to invest money—honey, invest wisely. A good publicist can get you media coverage that lasts longer than a sash. Just a thought.

Bottom line: Don’t look desperate or directionless in a designer gown.

Because you are the brand. Don’t be the backdrop in someone else’s big production. Make moves that matter. Do it for the right reason—and on your terms
